LEAD TEACHER

POSITION SUMMARY

The Site Manager will actively lead and engage scholars and staff in all program components and activities of the YMCA Afterschool Signature Program. Ensuring a strong program team that works well together, overseeing the implementation of the program components, building continual opportunity for youth leadership and character development, and will be responsible for the daily supervision of an assigned group. To ensure a high-quality implementation of the program, the site manager is expected to participate in ongoing professional development and provide opportunity for program staff to participate in professional development opportunities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Manage quality implementation of the day-to-day operations of the afterschool program.
  2. Acting Lead Teacher for an assigned group, ensuring use of best practices, guidelines, and methods of youth development in daily work and provides careful, attentive supervision while promoting learning and safety.
  3. Ensuring all resources, printouts/materials, and equipment is onsite to deliver program, offering guidance and direction for program staff for set up and implementation of program schedule and lesson plans, to include all program components and dosages.
  4. Partner with the Program Lead/Department direct to ensure staff are hired, onboarded, and trained.
  5. Ensure quality delivery of program dosages to support the growth and development of the whole child, to improve academic performance, build character development and social emotional learning competencies and increase physical activity and healthy living practices.
  6. Complete monthly lesson plans to include an implementation plan and S.A.F.E. framework-based activities in cooperation with the school to address each of the program components according to prescribed dosage.
  7. Ensures continuous program quality improvement through assessments, evaluations, feedback surveys, planning, tracking and collecting data to strengthen the program.
  8. Ensure all staff model and apply adult best practices within youth programs. Including but not limited to Character Development adult practices, and YPQA youth work methods.
  9. Along with the department director, plans, attends, and implements professional development opportunities, staff meetings, and other duties as assigned.
  10. Demonstrates a working knowledge of YMCA mission, purpose and goals, childcare policies, and YMCA standards; ensures the program meets the highest standards of excellence.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND REQUISITES

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  2. Must have bachelor’s degree related to youth development, education, recreation, etc.
  3. Four or more years prior experience working with school-aged children (ages 5-12)
  4. Two or more years in an administrative or supervisory capacity with demonstrated decision making ability.
  5. Experienced in program design, lesson planning and program implementation.
  6. Must be capable of directing the daily administrative, program related, and supervisory responsibilities of the Afterschool Program.
  7. Positive role model with strong leadership skills, exceptional group management, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills with experience in managing staff.
  8. Experience in creating interactive and educational/artistic activities, youth development, academic enrichment, and arts.
  9. Experienced in delivering evidenced based youth programming or implementing programs informed by known best practices.
  10. Ability to build effective working relationships with parents, administrators, staff, and scholars.
  11. Excellent organizational and communication skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.
  12. Flexibility, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

COMPENSATION:

$25 per hour, full time

SCHEDULE:

General program schedule follows school district calendar Monday through Friday:

  • 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm Team Meetings, Lesson Planning, and other projects to prepare for quality program implementation
  • 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm at program site delivering program
