MARCH MEMBER UPDATE

March 16th marks a year since your Y suspended operations and pivoted in response to the needs of our community. You and your fellow members enabled us to continue supporting our neighbors over the last 12 months. THANK YOU.

This past summer, we welcomed back members as they slowly returned when they felt comfortable and safe to do so. For our members who did not quite feel ready or who have preexisting conditions, the launch of the YMCA Virtual Y platform allowed members to access the Y anywhere, anytime. It is exciting to see over 250 members visiting our Y daily and 175 members accessing the Virtual Y watching our on-demand group fitness videos. Soon we will be releasing our new Y Mobile App making it easy to reserve your favorite group fitness class, track and monitor your workouts, experience personal training sessions remotely, and so much more. Late this Spring or early summer, we are taking steps to launch a new website that will integrate your digital experience between the web, our virtual Y, and the app.

We are excited to share that the process has begun to evaluate the purchase and replacement of our entire cardio equipment this summer. Please consider stopping by to experience the cardio demo equipment pieces and share your comments to inform our process. In August, we plan to replace the pool liner. Plus, when we open the locker rooms and spas, you will be able to enjoy the facility improvements made in those spaces. These tangible improvements are intended to provide greater member value and support you on your journey to greater health and wellness, for a better us.

As we all return to a better normal, our staff continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic metrics and guidelines from the CDC and our local and state public health departments. By the end of March, we project more than 80% of our staff will have received their vaccinations. We are also determining if and when we can bring back more amenities for members including opening our gyms and even our locker rooms and spas, and babysitting. All decisions are based on current metrics, guidelines from public health departments and the CDC, and the capacity of the Y to currently offer that amenity in a safe manner.

As always, thank you for being a member of the West Cook YMCA.

SUMMER DAY CAMP REGISTRATION OPENS MARCH 19TH

At Camp Magellan, your child will explore this summer while developing skills, self-confidence, new friendships and a sense of belonging – all while having tons of fun. From games and sports to arts and crafts to outdoor adventures to science and technology, a Y day camp experience offers them the chance to learn new things and enjoy new adventures.

In order to have fun and thrive, children need to feel both physically and emotionally safe. When you drop your child off at a Y day camp, you can rest assured that their total well-being will be nurtured and supported by caring Y staff who are committed to ensuring that their experience is a great one.

The West Cook YMCA has been running childcare programs during the pandemic, beginning with our Emergency Childcare Program for Essential Workers, to our Remote Learning Supervision Program in partnership with River Forest School District 90. The same care and quality trusted by our healthcare workers, school partners, and our families will be implemented in our day camp program.

Financial assistance is available for families who need it to ensure that all kids in our community can have enriching summer experiences.

Our camps fill up fast, so mark your calendars to register for West Cook YMCA's Summer Day Camp on March 19th!
